FAT TRANSFER TO THE BREASTS

A personalized way to add breast fullness using your own fat.

Breast fat transfer can add measured fullness and refine breast shape using fat collected by liposuction from a suitable donor area. It may be a good fit if you want a modest, individualized change without an implant and have enough donor fat to support the plan.

During your consultation, we will look at the breast and donor areas together, explain what change is realistic, and help you compare fat transfer with implants or no procedure. Retained volume varies, and some people may consider more than one treatment.

Breast fat transfer at a glance

Where the fat comes from

We choose a donor area that has enough fat to harvest while still supporting a balanced, proportionate contour. The amount available helps shape the plan.

How the breasts are shaped

Prepared fat is placed in the breasts to add fullness or refine selected areas. Your anatomy and tissue capacity guide the amount and distribution.

What to expect from the result

Some early fullness is swelling, and retained volume varies from person to person and between breasts. We will explain the range of change that is reasonable for you.

One procedure, two treatment areas

You will be healing in both the donor area and the breasts. Because each area has different needs, your instructions for comfort, compression, positioning, activity, and follow-up will be tailored to both.

  • Your donor area is selected for its contouring potential as well as the fat available for transfer.
  • Your breast anatomy, tissue quality, blood supply, and goals guide the transfer plan.
  • The donor area is contoured with the same care given to the breast result.
  • Your recovery plan coordinates care for both areas at the same time.

Who may be a good candidate?

You may be a candidate if you are healthy, have enough suitable donor fat, want a measured change in breast fullness or shape, and are comfortable with the natural variability of retained volume.

  • You want a subtle-to-moderate change rather than a highly predictable implant volume.
  • A suitable donor area can be contoured without creating a disproportionate result.
  • Your weight is reasonably stable and your expectations allow for changes during healing.
  • You are prepared to discuss breast symptoms, prior procedures, family history, and screening history.
  • You are open to hearing whether staged treatment, implants, or no procedure would better match your goals.

How breast fat transfer compares with other options

Several procedures use fat or add breast volume, and each follows a different plan. Your anatomy and goals determine which approach deserves consideration.

Breast implants

Implants offer a different way to create breast volume and shape, with their own planning, maintenance, and risks. Your consultation can help you compare the options based on the change you want and what your anatomy can support.

BBL

A BBL places harvested fat in the buttocks rather than the breasts. The goals, recipient-site anatomy, injection strategy, aftercare, and safety considerations are different.

Standalone liposuction

Standalone liposuction focuses on removing fat and contouring the donor area. Breast fat transfer adds preparation and placement of that fat in the breasts, so both areas are planned and supported through healing.

Hand fat transfer

Hand fat transfer restores volume in the hands. It may share a harvesting step, but the treatment goals and placement plan are different from breast transfer.

Explore BBL planning, liposuction options, or hand fat transfer to see how each procedure serves a different goal.

How your plan is created

Your plan connects three stages: collecting fat from a suitable donor area, preparing it, and placing it in the breasts. We tailor each stage to your anatomy and the goals you discuss during your evaluation.

  • Map the donor areas and decide what contour change is appropriate there.
  • Evaluate breast shape, asymmetry, skin and tissue characteristics, prior scars, and the change you would like to see.
  • Explain how fat will be harvested, prepared, and distributed, including why an exact transferred volume cannot be promised.
  • Coordinate follow-up for both donor-area healing and breast changes.
  • Agree on how progress will be assessed and when observation, another treatment, a different approach, or no further procedure may make sense.

Setting realistic goals for volume and shape

Breast fat transfer is best suited to a measured, individualized change. The available donor fat and the amount your breast tissues can support guide what is possible. An exact size change, perfectly even retention, or a specific final contour cannot be promised, and early swelling does not represent the final result.

If your desired change is more than one treatment can appropriately provide, we may discuss a staged approach. Implants may be worth considering when a more predictable degree of volume or projection is important. In some circumstances, anatomy, health, breast findings, or expectations may make no procedure the best recommendation.

What to expect during recovery

You will be healing in the donor area and the breasts at the same time. Swelling, bruising, soreness, firmness, temporary sensory changes, and asymmetry can occur, and the two areas may settle at different rates. We will help you understand what is expected as healing progresses.

  • Follow the garment, positioning, wound-care, and activity instructions provided for each area.
  • Plan for help at home based on your work, caregiving, and movement needs rather than a one-size-fits-all downtime estimate.
  • Contact our clinical team if symptoms are new or worsening, or if something about your recovery concerns you.
  • Keep follow-up appointments so we can assess donor contours, breast changes, and overall healing together.

Breast health, imaging, and follow-up

Fat grafting can be associated with oil cysts, fat necrosis, and microcalcifications that may appear on future breast imaging. Before treatment, we will ask about breast symptoms, prior procedures, personal and family history, and current screening recommendations.

Continue the breast screening recommended for your age and risk profile, and tell breast-imaging professionals about prior fat transfer. Any new breast change should be evaluated rather than assumed to be part of the procedure.

Safety, risks, and support

Breast-site risks can include cysts, infection, microcalcification, fat necrosis, palpable firmness or irregularity, asymmetry, changes in sensation, contour concerns, and loss of some transferred volume. Donor-site risks can include bleeding, fluid accumulation, infection, contour irregularity, changes in sensation, skin injury, and the possibility of revision.

Before surgery, we will review your personal risks, the alternatives, the planned technique, and what it would mean to delay or decline treatment so you can make an informed decision.

What you will know before deciding

  • Which donor areas are suitable and what contour change to expect there.
  • What breast shape or fullness change is realistic with the available fat.
  • How asymmetry, prior scars, or previous procedures may affect the plan.
  • How the result may change as swelling resolves and retained volume settles.
  • Whether staged treatment, implants, or no procedure may fit your goals better.
  • What preparation, aftercare, imaging communication, and follow-up you will need.
  • What your individualized quote includes.

Frequently asked questions

How much larger will my breasts be?

The degree of change depends on your donor-fat availability, breast anatomy, placement limits, healing, and retained volume. Your consultation will focus on a realistic range rather than promise a specific measurement or cup size.

How does fat transfer compare with implants?

They are different tools. Fat transfer can suit a measured change using your own donor fat, while implants may offer a different degree or predictability of volume. Each has distinct considerations and risks, and your anatomy and goals should guide the choice.

How is breast fat transfer different from a BBL?

Both procedures may use harvested fat, but the fat is placed in a different area. That changes the goals, technique, aftercare, and risk discussion.

Could I consider another treatment later?

Possibly. Depending on your goals and how you heal, a staged treatment or a different method may be discussed. We will explain what can reasonably be accomplished now and how any later decision would be made.

How is pricing handled?

Pricing depends on the donor areas, transfer plan, and any combined treatment. You can review our current pricing information, and your consultation will include a written quote explaining what is included.
