ELLACOR MICRO-CORING
If you are looking for a way to address selected wrinkles or skin laxity without choosing a larger skin-excision operation, Ellacor may be worth discussing. Its Micro-Coring technology removes tiny columns of skin in a controlled pattern. During your consultation, Dr. Farrugia will examine the area, listen to the change you want, and help you compare the options that fit your skin and goals.
Treatment at a glance
- Focus: selected wrinkles and skin-quality concerns treated by removing tiny columns of skin in a controlled pattern.
- Established treatment area: moderate and severe wrinkles of the mid and lower face in specified adults and skin types.
- How it differs: Renuvion follows an energy-based pathway beneath the skin, while excisional surgery removes larger sections of skin through surgical incisions.
How Ellacor Micro-Coring works
Ellacor creates very small, full-thickness cores in the epidermal and dermal tissue. An integrated vacuum helps stabilize the treatment area while those micro-cores are made in a controlled pattern.
In plain language, tiny columns of skin are removed so the surrounding skin can heal around the treated pattern. This is different from removing fat, using energy beneath the skin, or surgically excising a larger section of skin.
Your result is individualized. The amount of change depends on the treatment area, the treatment pattern, how your skin heals, and your follow-up plan. We will use your consultation to explain what may be realistic for you.
Where Ellacor may fit into your plan
The manufacturer’s information centers on moderate and severe wrinkles of the mid and lower face in adults age 22 or older with Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV, and also lists fractional skin resurfacing. Dr. Farrugia combines that information with an in-person examination to decide whether Ellacor fits your skin and goals.
If another area is concerning you, bring it up at your consultation. That area will need its own examination and treatment discussion.
If you have recently had chin or neck treatment, we first allow healing to progress. Dr. Farrugia may reassess any remaining skin concerns at three months or later and discuss Ellacor as a separate option if it fits your plan.
What Ellacor can help you explore
Refining selected skin concerns
Ellacor may be considered when a wrinkle or skin-quality concern fits the current device information and Dr. Farrugia’s clinical assessment.
When fat is the main concern
Liposuction is designed to treat localized fat. Ellacor addresses selected skin concerns through micro-coring, so your examination helps identify which problem needs to be treated.
When surgery may fit better
If your goal requires removing a larger section of loose skin, Dr. Farrugia may discuss a facelift, neck lift, mini tummy tuck, or another excisional procedure instead.
How Ellacor compares with Renuvion and surgery
Ellacor
Uses a controlled pattern of full-thickness micro-cores. The treatment area, timing, and plan are selected for your skin.
Renuvion
Uses a separate energy-based pathway beneath the skin for selected skin-tightening concerns rather than the micro-coring mechanism.
Excisional surgery
Removes larger sections of skin through surgical incisions and has a different scope, recovery, limitations, and risk profile.
After examining you, Dr. Farrugia can explain whether Ellacor, staged treatment, Renuvion, excisional surgery, another approach, or no procedure is most likely to match your skin, anatomy, and goals.
Who may be a good candidate for Ellacor?
Ellacor may be worth a conversation if
- you are concerned about wrinkles or skin quality in the mid or lower face;
- you want to understand how micro-coring differs from fat removal or an energy-based procedure;
- you are ready to discuss your skin type, prior procedures, medications, healing history, and treatment goals; and
- you want a personalized explanation of the change that may be realistic for you.
When we may recommend a different plan
- an open wound, active irritation, infection, or certain skin conditions affect the treatment area;
- pregnancy, nursing, an allergy, bleeding risk, medication, immune condition, or another medical factor changes what is appropriate for you;
- recent surgery, injections, implants, or another treatment affects the area-specific plan; or
- your goal calls for fat removal, removal of a larger amount of loose skin, or a degree of change Ellacor cannot reliably provide.
What happens at your consultation
Your consultation connects the technology to your goals. Dr. Farrugia will evaluate the exact area, your skin type and concern, prior procedures, medications, healing considerations, and the alternatives that could help you move forward.
- the Ellacor system and exact treatment area being considered;
- how that area fits the current manufacturer information;
- whether another procedure would suit your goal better or should occur at a different time;
- your preparation, anesthesia, aftercare, and follow-up plan;
- current availability and a written procedure-specific quote; and
- the expected benefits, realistic limitations, possible side effects, and symptoms that should prompt a call.
For a neck concern after liposuction, we allow time for healing and usually reassess at three months or later before considering Ellacor as a separate option.
What to expect during recovery
Recovery depends on the treatment area, settings, your individual healing, aftercare, and the timing of any other procedure. Before treatment, our clinical team will explain the recovery plan that applies to you.
Expected treatment effects can include redness, swelling, bruising, burning, dryness, roughness, tightness or pulling, crusting, discomfort, tenderness, tingling, bleeding, numbness, peeling, or circular marks. Some effects may take time to resolve.
You will receive written instructions for preparation, skin care, activity, medications, and follow-up. Our clinical team will explain what is expected and when we want you to call with a concern.
Safety, side effects, and support
Ellacor is a medical-device procedure and has risks. Manufacturer safety information lists less-common possibilities including itching, changes in pigmentation, hematoma, infection, scarring, skin irregularity, skin necrosis, uneven appearance, and anesthesia-related complications.
Your individual risk profile depends on the treatment area, settings, technique, medical history, medications, prior procedures, and aftercare. Dr. Farrugia will review these factors with you and answer your questions before you decide.
You can review the manufacturer’s current indication and important safety information before your visit. Bring any questions about alternatives, expected effects, warning signs, and your exact treatment plan so we can discuss them together.
Scheduling, availability, and personalized pricing
Availability can change, so current scheduling and your treatment plan are confirmed directly with our team rather than from an older online article.
Call our team to ask about current availability. If Ellacor is offered and fits your plan, you will receive a written quote identifying the treatment area, session plan, what is included, and any financing terms you choose.
You can review our Pricing and Financing pages for general information. Your consultation will include a written quote for your specific plan.
Questions patients often ask
What does Ellacor remove?
Ellacor removes very small, full-thickness micro-cores of skin in a controlled treatment pattern. It does not remove fat and is different from excisional surgery.
Can Ellacor cause scarring?
Scarring is a possible adverse effect listed in the manufacturer’s safety information. Dr. Farrugia will discuss how the treatment area, your skin type, and your healing history affect this risk, along with the aftercare we expect you to follow.
How is Ellacor different from Renuvion?
Ellacor uses mechanical micro-coring. Renuvion follows a separate energy-based, subdermal pathway. Your skin concern and anatomy help determine which option deserves consideration.
How does Ellacor compare with a facelift, neck lift, or mini tummy tuck?
Excisional operations remove larger sections of skin and have a different scope, recovery, and risk profile. Your examination helps determine which approach best matches the amount and location of loose skin.
Can Ellacor be considered for the neck or body?
Current FDA-cleared indications center on moderate to severe wrinkles of the mid and lower face in adults with Fitzpatrick skin types I through IV. Another area requires its own clinical evaluation and treatment discussion.
When might Ellacor be discussed after chin treatment?
After chin treatment, Dr. Farrugia may reassess remaining skin concerns at three months or later and discuss whether Ellacor or another separate procedure is appropriate.
What should I expect from recovery?
Recovery is individualized. Before you decide, we will explain what is typical for the treatment area and settings being considered and give you a written aftercare plan.
How are Ellacor scheduling and pricing confirmed?
Call our team for current scheduling. If Ellacor is offered and appropriate for you, we will provide a written, procedure-specific quote before you proceed.
